Bus Service Update

October 8, 2021

Carman-Ainsworth Parents/Guardians,

I am sure that all of you are aware of the severe shortage of school bus drivers across the state of Michigan, and across the entire country. We are actively recruiting drivers and have increased our hourly pay, but currently have just enough bus drivers to cover our routes. Due to the shortage of substitute bus drivers, the district has been forced to suspend bus transportation services for certain routes. When the decision is made to suspend a specific route, an email and automated call will be sent to those families affected, along with the information being posted on the district website.

I am sending this communication to all Carman-Ainsworth parents/guardians to advise you bus transportation might be interrupted/adjusted on short notice due to the severe shortage of substitute drivers. I encourage those of you that utilize bus transportation to have alternate transportation arrangements in the unfortunate event that bus cancellations are necessary.

We are extremely disappointed that the driver shortage has resulted in the interruption of bus transportation services for our students. Please know we are doing everything we can to recruit and retain bus drivers. If you or someone you know would like to join our Transportation Team, please contact the Human Resources Department at 810-591-8241.

I appreciate your assistance and hope the current situation improves and we can provide uninterrupted transportation services for our in-district students. Until that time arrives, we are asking those that use district transportation to please have one or more back up plans to transport your child to school.

Thank you for your support of our staff during this challenging time. Our entire team stands ready to help in whatever way possible. Please contact me if you have questions.

Sincerely,

Cathy McGilvery, Superintendent of Schools
