Commencement Rehearsal - 9:30am at Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center. Students must attend this rehearsal in order to participate in the ceremony Wednesday evening. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Commencement - 7:00pm at Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center. Commencement is a formal and dignified celebration, not only for seniors but for parents, grandparents, relatives, and friends. Participating in Commencement is a privilege and the atmosphere should be that of a formal ceremony. Students should exhibit their best behavior. We ask that ALL guests refrain from excessive cheering, verbal comments, calls, or noise making that distracts or interferes with the orderly conduct of the ceremony. Students, parents, and other guests are not to bring balloons, noisemakers, signs or other distracting items into the arena. Security personnel will prohibit entry to anyone in possession of an air horn, other noisemakers, coolers, or other food containers. Students will remain in their seats at all times other than when presented their diploma or when the class stands as part of the ceremony. Parents will not be allowed to visit students or deliver objects to the senior seating area or to the staging area on the lower level either before, during, or after the ceremony.

NOTE:  There will be heavy traffic on Center Road and Dort Highway near the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center, so plenty of travel time should be allowed. Seniors must be in the downstairs hall at the Event Center at 6:15 p.m. Handicap seating will be located on the lower level of the event center. If you are in need of a sign language interpreter, please call Mrs. Hubbard at 810-591-3240.

Proper Attire - Seniors are to wear their caps and gowns. Caps are properly worn with the mortarboard (flat top) parallel to the ground. Caps may be decorated (guidelines will be strictly enforced). Only school issued or approved honor cords, service cords, medallions, National Honor Society sashes, and white collars (for females only) may be worn on the gown and must be worn in a manner respectful of what these cords and garments represent. Flowers and decorative jewelry cannot be worn on the gown. Females are required to wear appropriate length dresses, skirts, or dress slacks, and dress shoes. Male students are required to wear dress shirts with collars, dress slacks, and dress shoes. No tennis shoes, T-shirts, jeans, or beach sandals will be permitted.

Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center - The facilities at the Event Center should nicely accommodate graduates, parents, and friends of the Class of 2019. There will be no tickets issued, as the auditorium seats 4,000! Parents and friends are asked, however, to sit in the lower levels of the tiered seating, as these rows provide the best viewing of the graduates. Parents and friends are welcome to take pictures from their seats during the processional and recessional but must remain outside the area where seniors will be seated. Again, please do not bring noisemakers, signs, food, coolers, or other items into the arena that may detract from the ceremony. There is a $5.00 parking fee at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center.

Diplomas - Students will receive only a diploma cover when they cross the stage. Actual diplomas will be picked up after the ceremony (See “Recessional” note). Students should receive the cover with the left hand and shake the right hand of the person conferring the diploma covers.

Pictures - A photographer will take a picture of each senior as he/she receives the diploma cover. Each senior will then receive, through the mail, one picture free. If you wish to order wallets, etc., an order form will accompany the free picture or you may visit www.graduationfoto.com to register your contact information and to view and/or order your pictures after the ceremony.

Recessional - When graduates march out of the arena, they are to continue walking to the diploma table at the end of the hallway to receive their diplomas. They should pick up their actual diploma immediately after the ceremony in the designated area, students will then proceed to the lobby area to join family and friends. Caps and gowns purchased from Jostens are the property of the graduate and need not be returned.

Post-Graduation Activity - The parent led Post-Graduation Committee is sponsoring a senior party after Commencement, Wednesday, May 29th, 2019. The party will be at Carman-Ainsworth High School. The purpose is for our students to have fun in a safe, non-alcoholic environment. Parent help is still needed so please text Karen Bridgett at 8108778987 if you are interested in helping with this event. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

We look forward to a wonderful Commencement ceremony and the celebration of a significant accomplishment in the lives of 335+ young adults.  See www.carman.k12.mi.us where this information is posted.

Sincerely,

Charles LaClear, Principal
