Rankin Elementary

Dear Parents and Community Members:

We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER), which provides key information on the 2022-23 educational progress for Rankin Elementary. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability, and teacher quality. For the 2023-24 school year, schools were identified based on previous years’ performance using definitions and labels as required in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). A Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) school is one that had at least one underperforming student subgroup in 2022-23. An Additional Targeted Support (ATS) school is one that had a student subgroup performing at the same level as the lowest 5% of all schools in the state in 2021-22. A Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) school is one whose performance was in the lowest 5% of all schools in the state or had a graduation rate at or below 67% in 2021-22. Some schools are not identified with any of these labels. In these cases, no label is given.

Rankin Elementary was identified as no label given. 

For the 2022-2023 school year, it marked the second traditional year since the students had either an online or hybrid online/in-person model of school.  The data continues to show the impact that the pandemic, and its subsequent disruption to school, has made on student assessment data.  For the most part, our students had a similar level of proficiency to the state average.  Our third grades students, on the other hand, far exceeded state averages with over 80% of our third graders scoring proficient in reading and over 76% of our third graders scoring proficient in math.  We use previous data coupled with current NWEA data to guide our instruction and interventions.  We have continued to implement interventions to assist our lowest performing students as we work to close the gap.  We offer a HAL (highly-abled learners) program for our highest achieving students.  We appreciate the continued support of parent, staff, and community with this effort. 

State law requires that we also report additional information.

1. Students that live within the designated school boundaries are able to attend Rankin Elementary School.  Additionally, parents may complete an Internal Schools of Choice Application if they reside within the Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools boundaries, but do not reside within the boundaries for Rankin Elementary School.  For families who are not residents of Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools, they may apply through the district’s limited choice program.

2. Rankin Elementary School is in our third year of a school improvement cycle as we recently switched to MICIP as our school improvement platform.  Our math and writing goals remained the same as last year, but we did modify our reading goal to focus on informational text and building on science and social studies background knowledge.  We have added an emphasis on guided reading and guided math into our School Improvement Plan this year.  We added a Whole Child goal based on a Needs Assessment with the goal being to increase instructional time and engagement by building relationships and understanding character traits.

3. Rankin Elementary School has a highly qualified team of teachers that actively pursues educational excellence for all students.  Our teachers work together in Professional Learning Community (PLC) continually to support our students’ achievement and academic growth.

4.  Curriculum is developed and implemented based on the Common Core Standards.  Information regarding the core curriculum is contained in grade level pacing guides and teacher provided parent information packets.

5. Rankin Elementary measures student achievement in multiple ways.  We use the NWEA assessment to determine annual student academic growth.
