Parent Resource Room
What is the Parent Resource Room?
The Parent Resource Room is a room that houses educational materials that may be used in the room or borrowed and taken home by families. The room also serves as a place for parents and students to receive homework help and support, as a quiet reading area, to check out educational materials and resources, to use the computer stations for families that don’t have access to computers and the internet at home, and much more. Parents will also have the ability to take care of their personal/family business, have access to parent literature and local community resources.
Why was the Parent Resource Room created?
As a district, we are granted Title I funds to meet the needs of our students and engage parents in the learning and development of their students. This is a great opportunity for parents to receive human resources, supplies and materials they need to help support their child at school and at home.
The creation of the room was important because a student’s educational journey is a partnership between the school and the family. It’s important to have the resources and support that is needed for the success of our students. So, the purpose of this room is to serve as a place where parents can check out educational materials for their child(ren) such as books, literacy games, math games, social emotional learning materials, educational manipulatives and other educational resources. Parents will also be able to ask questions about homework and the curriculum that their student is engaged in.
Additionally, this room will be available for parents during the school day and in the evening to accommodate parents’ schedules. Parent and family educational classes will be scheduled throughout the year to support the needs of families outside of academic areas. These classes could include nutrition, social emotional learning, study habits, etc.
Who is on site to provide homework help?
Carman-Ainsworth has hired a Parent Resource Room Facilitator/Parent Community Liaison to assist parents and students in their use of the materials and resources in the resource room.
What future plans or goals are there for the resource room; how would you like to see it grow or be utilized?
The Parent Resource Room will be the hub for parent and student resources and a place where parent sessions will be hosted. The room’s resources are geared towards Kindergarten and Fifth Grade, but we would like our Parent Resource Room to be utilized by all of our Kindergarten through Twelfth grade parents. So, although the resources won’t be applicable 6th-12th, the room could be utilized for parent learning sessions for our Secondary families. Topics for the parent learning sessions will and can include nutrition, social emotional learning, study habits, technology support, dangers of vaping, monitoring social media, etc. Our hope is that our parents and families utilize this room so often that it will require us to create more within the district!
