Student Safety is our main concern. We safely transport 3,000 students daily over 500,000 miles each year. You can help us to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of your child by:
    • Making sure your student is at their assigned bus stop five minutes before the bus arrives - this means not running out of homes or apartments, dashing off porches, or scurrying from waiting vehicles for safety reasons.

    • Realizing that drivers cannot wait for students to arrive at the bus stop (sorry, no exceptions) - waiting for even a small percentage of students would cause many to be late, and ruin school day schedules for multiple buildings. You see, we stagger the opening of our school buildings so that we can utilize fewer school buses. This saves taxpayer dollars by efficiently using district assets.

COVID-19 Busing and Student Transportation Requirements

    • Bus routes and times for resident students are available on our district website www.carman.k12.mi.us.
    • The bus driver, staff and students will be required to use hand sanitizer upon entering the bus; hand sanitizer will be supplied.
    • The bus driver, staff, and all students must wear facial coverings while on the bus.
    • Students will have assigned seats to help with contact tracing as needed, per the health department.
    • Families are strongly encouraged to check their child’s temperature at home and monitor their children for symptoms of COVID-19. Symptoms are any of the following not explained by a known medical or physical condition and you should PLEASE keep your child home from school if they have:
      • The presence of any ONE of the following:
        • Cough
        • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
        • Fever
        • New loss of taste or smell
      • The presence of at least TWO of the following:
        • Chills/sweating
        • Sore throat
        • Muscle pain or body aches
        • New onset of severe headache
        • Diarrhea
        • Vomiting or abdominal pain
        • Congestion or runny nose
    • Parents/guardians will take their student home if they are not allowed to board the bus due to COVID-19 symptoms.
    • If a student becomes sick during the day, they will not use bus transportation to return home; parents/guardians will be notified to pick up the student. If a driver becomes sick during the day, they will follow district protocols for sick staff and not return to drive students.
    • Transportation vehicles will be cleaned and disinfected before and after every transit route. Children will not be present when a vehicle is being cleaned.
    • Frequently touched surfaces in the vehicle will be cleaned and disinfected (i.e. surfaces in the driver’s cockpit, hard seats, armrests, door handles, light and air controls, doors, windows, and grab handles) prior to morning routes and prior to afternoon routes.
    • Weather permitting, doors and windows will be opened when cleaning the vehicle and between trips to let the vehicles thoroughly air out.
    • Weather permitting, windows will be open while the vehicle is in motion to help reduce spread of the virus by increasing air circulation, if appropriate and safe.
