• We are currently in our 5th year of the Blessings in a Backpack program here at the middle school. Blessings In a Backpack is a “neighbor-helping-neighbor” program that is designed to help meet the nutritional needs of children and families. Partnering with Meijer, each week volunteers, in cooperation with school officials, distribute bags filled with enough food for the weekend (typically six meals including some combination of mac n cheese, ramen noodles, soup, peanut butter, cereal, granola bars and other non-perishable items) to students. The goal of the Blessings in a Backpack program is to keep these students from going hungry on the weekends, as to improve academic success.

The middle school will be distributing food at the end of the day on Fridays at the middle school. In order to receive food, you must have a student that attends the middle school.

For as little as $2.40 we are able fill a bag for a child to take home on Friday. A donation of $100 provides a bag of food for a child for the entire school year. With the help of groups of concerned community leaders, philanthropic and business partners, caring citizens and you, Blessings in a Backpack has become a driving force against childhood hunger in the United States. See how you can make a difference in the lives of so many of our hungry neighborhood children. If you have any questions or would like to make a donation to the Blessings in a Backpack program, please call the CAMS office at (810) 591-6257 or email  tchapman@carmanainsworth.org  Thank you.
