• Dillon Elementary Title 1 School-Wide Parent Involvement Policy 2020-2021



    The Dillon Elementary Staff is committed to the involvement of parents and the community in achieving a successful learning environment for all students. We understand the importance of the parent partnership and positive connections between the home and school. This plan addresses how Dillon Elementary will involve parents to assure educational growth for all students.

    Part I: Policy Involvement

    The Dillon Elementary Title I School-Wide Parent Involvement Policy was created through a partnership which included parents and staff. Through parent meetings and feedback from surveys parents played an instrumental role in the development of our current policy. Through consistent utilization of parent feedback and suggestions we will continue to update and improve our School Wide Title 1 Program: 1116 (b)

    Convene an annual meeting: 1116 (c) (1)

    Dillon Elementary School will:

    • Hold an annual school-wide Title 1 meeting in coordination with our Open House that all parents are invited to attend either before school starts or within the first week of school
    • Discuss the School Improvement Plan, review the School-Wide Parent Involvement Policy, explain our Title 1 program and interventions, and inform parents of opportunities they can be involved in to help their child be successful
    • Distribute written notification of the meeting to all parents, informing them of their child’s curriculum presentation time as well as the time of the school-wide Title 1 Meeting. Notification will go home in the end of the year newsletter and will be mailed again in August. A school messenger call will also go out in August.

    Provide various activities specifically designed to encourage the involvement of all parents at a variety of scheduled times:  1116 (c) (2)

    Dillon Elementary School will encourage the involvement of all parents by offering the following:

    • Open House
    • Language Arts Fair
    • Math Nights
    • Science/Social Studies Night
    • Literacy Nights
    • Parent Teacher Conferences
    • Field Day
    • Run For FUNds
    • Project RAH
    • Flexible IEP times
    • Positive Behavior Support
    • Parent Club
    • Classroom Volunteers/Mentors

    Involve parents in planning, reviewing, and making improvements to the School-Wide Title 1 program, which will include the School and District Parent Involvement Policy:

    Dillon Elementary School will encourage the involvement of parents by:

    • Reviewing the School Parent Involvement Policy at our annual Open House
    • Ensuring the Parent Involvement Policy is available for parents to review during Fall and Spring Parent Teacher Conferences
    • Review Parent Compacts at Fall conferences
    • Conduct a parent survey at Parent Teacher Conferences for all parents
    • Review and make revisions to the Parent Involvement Policy incorporating recommendations based on parent survey results
    • Place a suggestion box in the main office to encourage continued communication between parents and the school all year
    • Review and make changes when applicable at monthly Parent Club meetings
    • Review the Title 1 Program, Parent Involvement Policy, and ask for suggestions for improvement at monthly Parent Club meetings
    • Continue all avenues of communications with parents using school newsletters, classroom newsletters, district publication, website and School Messenger to increase parent involvement in the School-Wide Title 1 Program

    Provide timely information about the School-Wide Title 1 Program, the academic curriculum, assessments used to measure progress, and grade level expectations:  1116 (c)(4)(A)(B)

    Dillon Elementary School will provide timely information through:

    • Fall Open House night (Annual Title 1 Meeting)
    • Fall and Spring parent conferences
    • School/Classroom/District newsletters
    • Report cards (quarterly)
    • Parent Vue (Parent access to assignments and grades)
    • District website-Policy and Compact available on website
    • Kindergarten transition program
    • Communication folders
    • Parent-Student handbook
    • Telephone calls and emails
    • School calendar and bulletin boards

    Provide parents the opportunity to interact with teachers regarding the education of their children.  Include parents in the decision making process and utilize their suggestions for improvement. Revise the School-Wide plan to meet student and parent needs and share revisions with LEA:  1116(c)(4)(C) & 1116 (c)(5)

    Dillon Elementary School will provide parents an opportunity to interact with their children’s school by:

    • Place a suggestion box in the main office to encourage continued communication between parents and the school all year
    • Review the Title 1 Program, Parent Involvement Policy, and ask for suggestions for improvement at monthly Parent Club meetings
    • Conduct parent survey for all parents
    • Parent-Teacher conferences (Fall/Spring/Additional conferences upon request)
    • Telephone calls/email correspondence between parents, teachers, and schools


    Part II: Share Responsibilities for High Student Academic Achievement

    Develop jointly with parents and teachers a School/Parent/Student Compact.  The compact will outline ways in which the parents, school staff, and students will work together to ensure high student academic achievement.  The compact will be reviewed and discussed during Fall Parent-Teacher conferences:  1116 (d) (1) & 1116 (d) (2) (A)

    Dillon Elementary School will develop a School/Parent/Student Compact:

    • The Parent/Teacher/Student compact will be reviewed at an annual parent meeting. Students, parents, and teachers will review the compact annually through surveys. Revisions will be made as a result of feedback and suggestions made by parents.
    • The compact will be sent home in the Fall to all parents and reviewed at the Fall Parent-Teacher conference. A strong home-school connection is developed by discussing the compact and how it relates to the success of each individual child.

    Provide frequent reports to parents on their children’s progress:  1116 (d) (2) (B)

    Dillon Elementary School will provide various academic reports to parents:

    • Report Cards (quarterly)
    • Parent Vue (Parent access to assignments and grades)
    • Parent-Teacher conferences (Fall, Spring, additional conferences upon request)

    Afford parents reasonable access to staff.  Provide opportunities for parents to volunteer, participate and observe in their child’s classroom:  1116 (d) (2) (C)

    Dillon Elementary School has an open door policy for parents with both administration and staff. In addition, parents are encouraged to participate in the following activities:

    • Parent Club
    • Classroom helpers
    • Chaperone field trips
    • Positive Behavior Support
    • Classroom observations as requested by parents
    • Family Learning Nights


    Part III:  Building Capacity for Involvement

    Provide information and assistance to parents regarding the state and local academic standards and assessments:   1116 (e) (1)

    To ensure that parents are informed about academic standards and assessments, Dillon Elementary School will provide the following:

    • Parent Conferences (Fall, Spring, and additional times upon request)
    • Parent Vue (Parent access to assignments and grades)
    • Standardized test results are discussed during conferences and sent home
    • Local assessment information (district writing assessment, Lexia Core5, DRA2, NWEA, district common assessments) shared with parents at conferences
    • Students receiving additional assistance will be progress monitored on a regular basis. Information will be shared with parents when appropriate.
    • Literacy Coach and Title 1 staff will be available to interpret results and provide information about assessments.
    • During Open House night all staff will share expectations and provide all parents with examples of resources to help their child reach their highest potential.

    Provide materials and Training to parents:  1116 (e) (2)

    Dillon Elementary School offers training and materials to parents through the following events and activities:

    • Open House night
    • Transition to Kindergarten Parent Night (Spring)
    • Kindergarten orientation day
    • Transition activities to our Fourth grade feeder school for students and parents
    • Parent workshops (Family Nights)
    • Provide lists of community resources to individual parents and assistance in accessing these resources, as needed
    • Summer reading program
    • Weekly school newsletters/Classroom newsletters/District Publications
    • District Website, Parent Vue-provides parents with materials and resources to help their child achieve success

    Educate teachers, Title 1 staff and principals regarding the value of parent involvement, ways to communicate effectively with parents, and implementation of parent programs:   1116 (e) (3)

    • Dillon Elementary School values and respects parent involvement in the school community. Parent involvement will be part of the professional development plan. Staff will participate in PLCs to implement new ideas for effective parent communication.  Further, parents are a part of the Positive Behavior Support program. When situations occur that involve students or the welfare of the entire school community, parents are always the first point of contact. The district will in-service teachers on how to utilize the district website to post classroom newsletters and add materials and resources to the Parent Vue. Title 1 staff will attend parent involvement workshops.

    Coordinate parent involvement activities with other programs:  1116 (e) (4)

    Dillon Elementary School will work to coordinate programs to ensure success for all:

    • Transition to Kindergarten activities
    • Parent Club volunteers
    • Parent Club
    • School wide family nights (Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts)
    • Transition activities to our Fourth grade feeder school for students and parents
    • Transition activities for our kindergarten families
    • Positive Behavior Support
    • Parent liaison
    • Church mentors and volunteers

    Inform parents of school and parent programs in a timely and practical format in a language they can understand:   1116 (e) (5)

    To ensure that all parents are informed in a timely and user-friendly manner, Dillon Elementary will provide:

    • Daily/Weekly communication folders
    • School Newsletter/Classroom Newsletters/District Newsletters written in a language parents can understand.
    • Interpreters as needed, through GISD for all parent contacts
    • District/Building website

    Provide support for parental involvement at their request:  1116 (e) (14)

    Dillon Elementary School will make every effort to support our parents and make sure their needs are met:

    • Make every effort to accommodate parent requests to ensure that students and parents individual needs are met in order to foster more positive parent involvement


    Part IV:  Accessibility

    Parent involvement activities accessible to all parents, including those with disabilities, parents who use English as their second language, and parents of migratory children:  1116 (f)

    Dillon Elementary School will provide:

    • Flexible meeting times
