In September 2014, CA High School implemented a truly exciting and innovative program entitled, Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Engineering Curriculum. PLTW is the leader in the development of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) curriculum. PLTW (www.pltw.org) curriculum is designed to promote critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and real-world problem solving skills.
In 2015, CA expanded its PLTW program and implemented Gateway To Technology in grades 6-8 and Launch for all K-5 students. Also, PLTW Biomedical Sciences was added to the high school curriculum. CA is the first district in the State of Michigan to provide PLTW curriculum to all students in grades K-12. In addition, CA is part of a five year grant to improve STEM education opportunities for students in grades eight through twelve.
In support of these efforts, CA has created a Partnership Team for our STEM Program to provide leadership and support in the development of exceptional STEM learning experiences for our students. Partnership Team member organizations actively assist in the education of our students and workforce development for our community. There are three Partnership Team meetings during the year. Partners have assisted us by hosting visits, providing classroom speakers and donating iPads, as well as establishing unique partnerships allowing high school students to earn college credit.
