Principal

Welcome Rankin Families!

It is my pleasure, on behalf of the entire staff, to "Welcome you to Rankin Elementary this school year!"  I am proud and pleased to be the principal at this wonderful school. We have great teachers and support staff who are here to assist you this year. We include the parents as part of our educational team that is a support to student achievement. This is your community school and we welcome you to be involved in any way that you can. We welcome and need parent volunteers. The Parent Club is a great way to be involved with other parents/guardians. Parent Club is a wonderful support to the school. They meet every second Tuesday of the month at 4:30, and offer free child care.

Our students have had great success in meeting state learning goals.  The MEAP scores compare very favorably to the Carman Ainsworth district and the State of Michigan. Our learning environment is safe and orderly and dedicated to an opportunity for success for all students.

We use a Positive Behavior Support model for establishing a staff and orderly school environment.  This program begins each year with teaching students the expectations for each area of the building.  It is our hope that students will understand what is acceptable and meet those expectations.  Students not meeting the expectations may visit our Responsibility/PBS room.   Students who have been referred to the room as a result of their behavior choices work with the Responsibility/PBS Monitor to help the student work out a new behavior plan. The parent is called, and then, if the behavior plan is appropriate, the child will return to the learning environment. We are looking forward to the positive impact the PBS will have on the safe and orderly learning environment at Rankin.

I am confident that the students, staff, and parents of Rankin School will enjoy a successful year. If I may be of any assistance to parents/guardians at any time, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your involvement as a supportive parent.

Sincerely,

Cathy McGilvery,

Principal
